LOW-KEY, HIGHLY FESTIVE

Author & chef @mimithor has created a new recipe, a Pumpkin & Ricotta cheesecake, especially for Sézane. Perfect for this year’s low-key Thanksgiving menu. Seasonal, moist & delicious- it's also très simple ;)

Ingredients

500 g ricotta cheese, drained

200 g pumpkin puree

4  eggs

200 g  sugar

½ teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 /2 orange, zest only

1 lemon, zest only

Butter for coating the bottom and the sides of the pan

Method

1) Preheat the oven to 180 °C/ 350°F.

2) Slice pumpkin into large wedges (I like to use potimarrom/ Hokkaido variety) and deseed.

3) Place on a baking tray and cook for about 45 mins or until soft).

4) Let it cool, scoop the flesh of the pumpkin and mash it up until smooth (you can also use a food processor).

5) In a bowl mix together all the ingredients very well.

6) Coat the bottom and sides of a springform cake pan with butter and line with parchment paper.

7) Pour the mix into the springform pan. Bake for 10 minutes at 200 °C/ 400°F then continue baking for an additional 40 minutes at 180°C/ 350 F.

8) Let it cool, unmold and serve with whipped cream (optional) and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

5 THINGS TO BE THANKFUL FOR...

1. My family

2. Being healthy

3. To have gained wisdom and positivity during these challenging pandemic times

4. To be surrounded by kindness from my community

5. To have the most loving husband

THE AMERICAN IN PARIS

American-born Parisian journalist and author of “The New Parisienne Lindsey Tramuta is gearing up for a different kind of Thanksgiving celebration this year, with Paris under lockdown “lite”, her usual gatherings with her closest friends will look a lot different this year. Here’s how she will make the moment special, even in trying times

A TWIST ON TRADITION

I may not be with my friends this year but that doesn’t mean I can’t observe the holiday with delicious food and some thinking time about what I’m grateful for in a year of turmoil. That means: dressing the table with my @MadamedelaMaison linens, my favorite dishware, and candles to set the mood. I’ll be with my husband who cares less about the tradition and more about the food (but I’ll still make him give thanks!) but I intend to FaceTime my family and friends, many of whom are flying solo this year, to feel connected in the only way that 2020 has allowed.

PREPARE THE SPREAD

My usual feast with friends, which we nickname Friendsgiving, unfolds potluck style. I’ve never prepared a full Thanksgiving meal on my own and don’t intend to start now! So I’ve outsourced the work to some of my favorite restaurants and food entrepreneurs in Paris who need our support more than ever this year. I’ve ordered a full meal from @SundayinSoho and a vegan pumpkin pie from the queen of pie, Allison Kave. She’s half of Izzy’s Paris but known first for her Brooklyn-based bar-bakery Butter & Scotch.

GET DRESSED UP & MAKE A PLAYLIST

Since we need excuses these days to change out of our pyjamas, Thanksgiving is as good a reason as any to put on that dress or those flowy skirts and those chunky sweaters and those joyful earrings, and maybe brush your hair and spray some perfume, and slip on those colorful bracelets that have been collecting dust in your jewelry box for months. Chances are, it’ll lift your mood instantly.

Music goes a long way to fill the absence of chatter and laughter around the table so set yourself up with a holiday-appropriate playlist. Listen along to mine here.

GIVE BACK

There are a lot of people who need extra support during the holiday, particularly this year. It may be trickier with social distancing but there are many ways to volunteer and support your local community.

A few ideas? Offer to pick up groceries for a neighbor or friend who may be at-risk or unwell; find a local shelter or food kitchen who could use extra support; donate a meal to essential workers and their families (in the U.S. apps like GrubHub and Postmates, among others, makes this easier but you can also find restaurants that deliver); reach out to someone you haven’t spoken to in a while. And if you’re in Paris, @refettorioparis could always use volunteers for daily dinner service.

5 THINGS I'M THANKFUL FOR...

1. My health

2. My loved ones (friends and family)

3. My cats (@Cheeselandkitties)

4. The spotlight for the women in my book #TheNewParisienne

5. The ability to VOTE!

Happy Thanksgiving!
