London O'Clock

  • THE CAMBERWELL ARMS

Sunday can only mean one thing… A roast! But not just any old Sunday roast. Grab a seat around one of the timeworn wooden tables at The Camberwell Arms, a cozy gastropub in south London that offers a winning formula for kids: potatoes and roast chicken! As well as some more sophisticated dishes, like asparagus with brown butter or lamb stew with polenta.

    65 CAMBERWELL CHURCH ST, LONDON SE5 8TR

  • FALLOW

In the St James’s neighborhood, Fallow creates modern, sustainable, and highly desirable English cuisine. Don't be fooled by the slick decor: the menu features a finger-licking kids’ menu with grilled corn on the cob with lime, a cheeseburger, fish fingers with smoked mayonnaise, followed by milk ice cream with a crunchy hazelnut topping, to be enjoyed from the comfort of a kids’ high chair. I, I Fallow, I Fallow you...

    52 HAYMARKET, LONDON SW1Y 4RP

  • TOWPATH

Moored along the banks of Regent's Canal, Towpath café provides perfect bird-watching entertainment (ducks, coots, etc.) for your little sailors and a terrace from which to watch the boats pass by. There’s no specific kids’ menu, instead, a well-rounded selection of small plates that’ll certainly pamper their appetites: hanger steak with fries and aioli, grilled cheese with quince jam... Food to put the wind in their sails!

    42 DE BEAUVOIR CRES, LONDON N1 5SB

  • BAO NOODLE SHOP

Now here’s a place that doesn't take your kids for noodleheads! In the heart of Shoreditch, Bao Noodle Shop has thought of everything when it comes to eating out with kids. The menu? Can be colored in to help the kiddos pass the time. The dishes? Between the noodle soup and the baby bao, they would make even the most demanding parents green with envy. The drinks? Only the very good stuff, like bubble tea or peanut milk. The icing on the Bao: the special kids’ nights and the overflowing goodie bags.

    1 REDCHURCH ST, LONDON E1 6JJ

  • CHATSWORTH BAKEHOUSE

Between museum visits, run to Chatsworth Bakehouse, a bakery as small as it is cute. There isn’t any seating, just take-away options that you won’t waste time deliberating over: maritozzi, peach and raspberry crumble tart, salted chocolate brownies... At lunch, jump on their “grandma-style” pizza slices, or gobble up their famous sandwiches stuffed with smoked ham, whipped garlic butter, shoe-string potatoes, and frisée salad. Awesome snacks to devour on the go, it’s a thumbs up from us!

    120A ANERLEY RD, LONDON SE19 2AN

  • SCOTTI’S SNACK BAR

For some Italian eats, head to Scotti’s Snack Bar, a café founded in 1967 in Clerkenwell, the neighborhood that used to be London’s Little Italy. The Formica tables and the small terrace see curious passers-by and regulars alike, who swing by from the break of dawn until mid-afternoon. The must-try? The breaded chicken escalope sandwich, which both little chicks and mother hens will adore! Mamma mia!

Outside of London

  • POLLEN

Foraging for the coolest breakfast in Manchester? Look no further than Pollen, whose quintessentially British breakfast includes sausage, smoked ham, mushrooms, beans, a fried egg, and sourdough bread! As for the sweet treats? Cinnamon brioche, babka, carrot cake, and cookies, all made to be devoured along the canal, where the ducks are waiting to catch the crumbs – if your little ones agree to share them that is!

COTTON FIELD WHARF, 8 NEW UNION ST, MANCHESTER M4 6FQ

  • MEDLOCK CANTEEN

After the proper Mancunian experience? Head to Medlock Canteen, part French bistro, part American diner, surrounded by buildings that don't look like much... but whose front door is well worth pushing open! On the lunch and dinner menus, think roast chicken and vegetables, Yorkshire puddings and mashed potatoes, roast beef... as well as sandwiches, ice creams, juices, and pastries available all day. This is England!

NEW JACKSON, 5 OWEN ST., DEANSGATE, MANCHESTER M15 4YB

  • COOMBESHEAD FARM

In the pastures of lush, green Cornwall, this adorable cottage combines a bed and breakfast option perfect for tribes passing through, and a restaurant open for dinner and Sunday lunch, whose plates (pies, puddings, etc.) are concocted using goodies from the onsite vegetable patch and fruits from the orchard. Your sprogs can even make friends with all the animals on the farm!

    LEWANNICK, LAUNCESTON PL15 7QQ

  • THE THREE HORSESHOES

In this old 17th-century stone building located in the rolling countryside of Somerset, the menu changes every day, alternating between English pub classics and fancier dishes: pork pie, cheddar toasties, roast chicken sando – enough to feed the whole herd! Our top tip: when the sun’s out, grab a table in the lush green garden for some fresh country air.
